Walk towards Quality and Act from  Awareness--Review of HMC Quality  Awareness Campaign

In September 2022, taking the opportunity of the national “Quality Month” activity, aiming at improving product quality and strengthening quality awareness, HMC launched one-month Quality Awareness Campaign, including Quality Awareness Publicity, Quality Awareness Training and Quality Improvement Implementation.

To ensure the forceful carrying-out of the Quality Awareness Campaign, Quality Department together with HR department made the planning, publicity and deployment all ready before September to create atmosphere. From August 31st to September 1st, 18 internal trainings for all blue collars were completed with the theme of Strengthening Quality Awareness which focused on analyzing the quality losses and root causes. The two-day trainings also kicked off the Quality Awareness Campaign.



In the following month, taking quality as the core, all the workshop teams took refresh training on WI&SWI; all staff joined in identifying and clearing up FOD and other quality risks; TPM point-check items of equipment, tooling and tools were improved to ensure standard operation. MCXC workshop added Cutting Material Confirming & Checking Board, and got initiative to track the quality of the finished parts in order to find out and solve the problem on time. MCXD workshop reviewed the previous PPS and lesson-learnt, encouraged employees to put forward more Best Ideas by brainstorming and gave "On the Spot Award" to employees who identified new FOD. At the same time, in order to strengthen publicity, the quality awareness is disseminated to all employees through poster display, TV rolling broadcast, electronic internal magazine and other publicity channels.



During the Quality Awareness Campaign, all KPIs on quality got significantly improved. Comparing September Cost of Non-Quality (CNQ) with August, it reduced by 43% and reduced by 77% comparing with July. Furthermore, there is no cost increase in both ATL/Hot Forming/VE/VR Vacuum Bag TR Team and VB/VD ASSY. Team in September. Meanwhile, comparing with July, Scrap Cost of whole HMC reduced by 69% and Cost of Quarantined Parts reduced significantly by 83%. 31% blocked PPS closed properly. Quantity of NEW Quality Notification (QN) reduced by 44% comparing with July. Among these NEW QNs, those which lead to Concession reduced by 47%, and those which lead to Scrap reduced by 75%.



The Quality Awareness Campaign has been closed, but the quality string will not be slackened. This activity enables each HMC employee to plant quality awareness, the "soul of the enterprise", in his heart, and continue to improve in his future work, strive to provide guarantee for the annual target with improved quality, and use excellent quality to empower HMC's development.
